Lightbits Labs Certified on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Lightbit Labs announced that it’s achieved certification on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), setting a new standard in high-performance, cost-effective block storage for enterprises with latency-sensitive, IO-intensive workloads. The certification enables OCI customers to leverage Lightbits’ cloud-native storage solution to manage Kubernetes persistent volumes for performance-driven applications, while providing a strong focus on security and cost efficiency.

Who is Lightbits?

Lightbits Labs is a technology company specializing in software-defined, disaggregated block storage solutions tailored for cloud-native data centers. Lightbits provides a foundation for high-performance storage over standard Ethernet networks without requiring specialized hardware.

The company’s flagship software, LightOS, is a scalable and efficient storage platform that delivers high IOPS and low latency. It’s ideal for latency-sensitive applications such as databases, big data analytics, and real-time analytics workloads.

Lightbits’ solution is also enterprise-ready, offering features like thin provisioning, elastic RAID, data reduction, and multi-tenancy support. These capabilities enable organizations to scale storage and compute resources independently, optimizing infrastructure utilization and reducing the total cost of ownership.

Lightbits on OCI

Lightbits certified on OCI delivers a robust, low-latency storage solution to support demanding data-first workloads like AI/ML, latency-sensitive databases, and real-time analytics. Its architecture enables enterprises to scale while maintaining high operational efficiency and reliability.

Performance Benchmarks

Lightbits released performance tests on OCI using OCI’s BM.DenseIO.E5.128 compute shapes and BM.Standard.E5.192 servers running Lightbits software on Oracle Linux 9.4. The configuration delivered significant performance capabilities:

  • 4K Random Read and Write IOPS: 3 million 4K random read IOPS and 830K 4K random write IOPS per client, fully utilizing the 100GbE network card on BM.Standard.E5.192 servers.
  • Latency: Achieved sub-300 microsecond latencies for 4K random read and write operations and an operational latency of 1 millisecond during high-demand random read and write operations.
  • Mixed Workload Efficiency: In a scenario involving 70% random reads and 30% random writes, each client achieved a combined 1.8 million IOPS, illustrating Lightbits’ capability to perform efficiently even in high-stress, mixed-workload situations.

Analysis

Lightbits is an attractive option for enterprises needing high-performance storage within the Oracle Cloud environment. The platform’s ability to scale dynamically without downtime, integrate with Kubernetes, OpenStack, and VMware environments, and provide high resilience with no single point of failure shows its versatility and reliability.

The new certification brings enterprises a powerful, resilient storage option to meet the needs of latency-sensitive, data-heavy workloads for OCI customers. The benchmarks show that Lightbits maximizes performance while ensuring cost-effectiveness and scalability for demanding applications. With seamless integration options, enterprises transitioning high-performance workloads to the cloud should consider Lightbits on OCI.
