Riverbed’s New Platform Approach to AI-powered Observability

This week at the 2024 RSA conference, observability company Riverbed launched an aggressive update to its advanced AI-powered observability platform. The new platform includes several new solutions and features built on an open architecture, addressing critical visibility challenges across public cloud, Zero Trust, SD-WAN, and remote work environments.

Key highlights of the announcement include:

  1. Unified Agent: Riverbed introduced a Unified Agent for streamlined deployment of visibility solutions. The agent supports various modules, such as Aternity for end-user experience monitoring and NPM+ for network and cloud monitoring, enabling comprehensive data collection without adding multiple agents.
  2. Data Store: The Riverbed Data Store is an efficient data repository that aggregates and analyzes vast amounts of data. It supports AI-driven insights and automation without requiring enterprises to build complex data repositories.
  3. Topology Viewer: This tool provides dynamic mapping of connected devices and dependencies within evolving IT landscapes, enhancing context for operational insights and decision-making.
  4. New Solutions:
    • Aternity Mobile: A pioneering mobile monitoring tool for enterprise-owned Apple iOS and Android devices. It enables proactive identification and resolution of digital experience issues, crucial for front-line employee productivity.
    • NPM+: A SaaS-delivered Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) service that extends visibility to previously inaccessible areas like remote work environments and encrypted architectures, ensuring comprehensive network monitoring.
    • NetProfiler: Enhancements include real-time visibility into SD-WAN health and performance and supporting platforms like Cisco (Viptela) and VeloCloud SD-WAN.
  5. Riverbed IQ 2.0: This second-generation AIOps service enhances IT operations by automating issue identification and resolution. It leverages AI to contextualize and correlate data across IT landscapes, reducing alert fatigue and enabling faster problem-solving through automated remediations and prioritization.
  6. Aternity Intelligent Service Desk: Integrates AI to efficiently automate and resolve common IT issues. It includes sentiment analysis to gauge end-user satisfaction, enhance service desk and call center performance

Riverbed’s focus on AI-driven observability and automation equips enterprises with much-needed actionable insights and operational agility. Integrating advanced analytics, automation, and comprehensive visibility solutions allows Riverbed to support organizations in optimizing digital experiences and achieving operational excellence in a digital-first environment.

This is a solid step for the observability company and a nice early win for new CEO Dave Donatelli. It’s also a move that helps Riverbed remain competitive against larger rivals like Cisco’s Splunk, Datadog, and Dynatrace.
